• The CTCSS module documentation

This CTCSS encoder / decoder unit is flexible enough to be used in almost any tone control application.

All signals are available at the 9 position header row. Either insert a 9 Pin Single row 0.1" spaced header or solder the wires directly into the pads.

The unit is capable to decode received signals via the audio path and can be used to modulate the tone onto the Microphone line. This way it is very easy to install without the need to modify your existing transceiver.

A built in 300Hz filter will help to filter low frequency audio such as 60Hz hum on either the incoming or out going audio signals. It also helps to prevent Talk Off problems. It can be configured with or without the use of the built in 300Hz filter. The tone is easy programmed via the two HEX rotary switches.

The table below shows the Switch settings and the corresponding subaudible tone. Click here for the PDF

How to connect the Module?

First thing is to determine how  do I want to use the CTCSS module. The Module can be used in a Repeater Setup as a Decoder or Encoder. Unfortunately it can only do Decode or Encode at the time. The Chip used in this module will mute the receive path if it is configured to provide a sub audible tone on transmit. In order to have encode and decode in a repeater simultaneously it is necessary to use two modules.

The programming is done by setting the two Hex switches to the appropriate number. Even though this is a static programming it could also be done via a Microcontroller. The Microcontroller would have at least 6 I/O lines available to connect it to the 6 bits on the CTCSS module.

If used in a Transceiver that is either transmitting or receiving, one module is sufficient  to achieve Encode/Decode.
